DronSe is a research laboratory, as part of the GeoSciences IR infrastructure, engaged in the creation of systems for managing drones data, integrating sensing capabilities with storage, processing, visualisation and analysis tools.
THE PROJECT
GeoSciences IR provides a Research Infrastructure for the Italian Geological Services Network. The Project is financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – PNRR Mission 4, “Education and Research” – Component 2, “From Research to Enterprise” – Investment Line 3.1, “Fund for the realization of an integrated system of research and innovation infrastructures.”
The mission of GeoSciences IR is to enhance the comparison and exchange with technical structures dealing with geology at the national and regional level by providing a permanent cloud research infrastructure, which is also necessary to strengthen skills useful for land monitoring and control.

THE LAB
The DronSe Laboratory performs scientific and technological research using drones and sensors, aimed at supporting applications in the field of Geosciences.
The laboratory is actively engaged in the creation of a research infrastructure for managing data acquired from drones, integrating sensing capabilities with data storage, processing, visualisation and analysis tools (including virtual reality algorithms, high-performance computing and Artificial Intelligence).
One of the goals is to develop advanced systems capable of processing and analysing multiple data simultaneously, enabling useful interpretations in near real time to support decision-making and rapid response in extreme conditions or the management of emergency scenarios.
DronSe aims to overcome the scale gaps between ground-based and satellite observations, using data management that applies FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles and contributes to the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals.
